Harker
Center Upgrade Comment Forms
If you haven’t already sent in the comment form we
mailed to you on March 30, 2007, or the same form we emailed on April 5,
2007, please take a few minutes to complete it and return it to us. We
urge you to participate in this important decision for the potential
upgrades to the Harker Center Complex.
Pools/Spas
Spring is appearing quite early this year! We will close the Village
outdoor hot tub on April 8, 2007, in conjunction with Baldy closing for
the season on the same day. The Elkhorn summer swim season officially
begins on Memorial Weekend. The opening dates and hours of both
facilities are posted below:
Harker Pool opens on May 26, 2007, fully staffed with
lifeguards, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. As usual, the organized
swim programs will be held in the morning hours at Harker.
The Village Pool opens on June 11, 2007, operating
with attendants only from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. daily. In addition,
Monday through Friday the pool will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
for Adults Only. No lifeguards will be on duty at any time and
therefore, no one under 14 years of age shall be admitted without a
responsible adult.
Phone numbers:
Harker Pool 622-3213
Village Pool 622-3047
We are still hiring lifeguards and pool attendants,
so if you know of anyone interested in this fun, seasonal work, please
suggest they contact us as soon as possible. If we have enough staff, we
may be able to have lifeguards on duty at the Village Pool as well.
News Flash!!! We hope to have a
Masters Swim Program this summer, if enough homeowners express interest.
Please let the SVEA office know ASAP if you’d like to participate in
this program throughout the summer.
Please stop in to enjoy your wonderful pool
facilities, meet our summer staff, and as always, let us know how we are
doing. In order to make our pools even safer for everyone, we will now
require non-toilet trained youngsters to wear official "swim diapers" in
the pools. These diapers can help reduce bacteria released into water by
up to 98 percent and reduce the risk of closing the pool because of an
"accident." We will have a limited number of swim diapers available if
anyone in need arrives without them.
Some owners have requested a change in our policy of
"No flotation devices allowed." The American Red Cross Water Safety
Handbook says the following:
"Inflatables, such as water wings, swim rings and
other flotation devices, are not designed to be used as substitutes for
U.S. Coast guard-approved life jackets or life vests or adult
supervision. Swimmers may go beyond their ability and fall off the
inflatable, which may lead to a drowning situation. Inflatable materials
deteriorate in sun and rough pool surfaces, leading to deflation and
leaks."
Watching Children Around Water: "Do not rely on
substitutes. The use of flotation devices and inflatable toys cannot
replace parental supervision. Such devices could suddenly shift
position, lose air or slip out from underneath, leaving the child in a
dangerous situation."
Because our insurance carrier requires that we comply
with the American Red Cross handbook, our policy will remain the same.
We want all of our guests to have a favorable and fun experience at our
pools and we kindly request your cooperation regarding these safety
policies.
 Elkhorn
Golf Course Club
Comments From Don Shirey, Golf Club Manager:
Due to the early spring warming trend, and as long as "Mother Nature"
continues with this trend, we will be able to open for golf operations
much sooner than in past seasons. You are more than welcome to contact
us at the Clubhouse for exact opening dates (208) 622-3300. Please
remember that we encourage all Elkhorn property owners to enjoy the
first-class restaurant and golf course throughout the summer season.
Don’t forget that our facility is available for any private function,
whether it’s a wedding with reception to follow, anniversary
celebration, or a special, private dinner. We look forward to making
every experience at Elkhorn Golf Club a great one, and to seeing you
soon.
Noxious
Weeds on The Rise
Unfortunately, we are falling behind in our War against
Noxious Weeds – and we need your help! If you live adjacent to any open
space areas that are infested with noxious weeds that we have missed, or
if you have been hiking or biking on any of the open space trails or
hillsides and have noticed weeds, please give us a call with the
locations. Also, take a few minutes and check your own property for
weeds. Please contact us if you would like detailed information,
including visuals, regarding the three noxious weeds prevalent in
Elkhorn: Dalmation Toadflax, Knapweed, and Thistle. Blaine County’s
website,
www.blainecounty.org, has great information about Noxious Weeds and
the Idaho statutes pertaining thereto. A partial quote from their
website:
"Noxious weeds affect everyone - they:
Impact our Quality of Life
Decrease Property Values
Devastate Grazing Lands for Wildlife and Livestock
And, can be Actual Health Risks.
State law requires landowners to control noxious weeds
on their properties."
Please let us know if you are willing to assist us
with person-power to pull weeds to save our neighborhoods and our
quality of life. If there is any interest we would be willing to host a
SVEA "weed out" party. Please contact our office at 208-622-7420.
Tennis
The
courts are clear of snow and winter debris, and the nets are being
installed as needed. Our Tennis Pro, Bill Van Deinse, and his staff will
be here, operating the Harker and Village courts in full force by May
15th. To reserve a court or for any other tennis information, please
call:
Phone numbers:
Harker Courts 622-9281
Village Courts 622-5535
Seasonal Lighting
It is that time of year again and we want to take this
opportunity to remind you that your seasonal lighting is permitted
during the winter months from November 1 until March 15th. If you
haven’t already turned off your seasonal lighting please do so now.
Thank you all for complying and being considerate to your neighbors.
Crown
Ranch vs. the City of Sun Valley
Recently the Idaho Supreme Court overruled a 5th Judicial
District Court decision that allowed for 13 units to be built in Phase 5
of the Crown Ranch Plan. It now falls to the City of Sun Valley to
clarify their findings of fact on their decision to deny the
application. For more information please go to the most recent Mountain
Express article
www.mtexpress.com/index2.php?issue_date=04-04-2007&ID=2005114754.

for Board Members. You can fill out an application online at
www.elkhorn-assoc.org (click on Board of

Report
From Elkhorn Springs
Elkhorn Springs has now moved into Phase II of their
development in the old Elkhorn Village. Phase II involves 3 additional
paired homes on the far southwest end of the project and two multi story
residential buildings, B2 and C2 (Creekside Terrace North/South) located
within the core. Both of these buildings sit on the same foundation and
contain a total of 35 units, 18 in B2 and 17 in C2. The paired homes are
scheduled to be completed early winter 2007, B2 by early 2008 and C2 by
winter 2008.
Phase III of Elkhorn Springs is expected to start
during the fall of 2007. This is the final phase of Elkhorn Springs.
The Elkhorn Springs restaurant has found a suitable
tenant and hopes to be opening this August and is optimistic that the
Country Store will be opening around the same time. More information
pertaining to these openings will be provided as we get closer to the
month of August.
Elkhorn Springs would like to thank Sun Valley
Elkhorn Association home owners for their patience and cooperation
during the construction of this project.
Village
Way Road Closures
Please note that Village Way through Elkhorn Springs will
be closed to all traffic for the month of April, with traffic being
rerouted through the area via Angani Way, the new "back street" in
Elkhorn Springs. CG Elkhorn is tearing down the Village archway and
rebuilding it with no center column, installing a sidewalk and bike
path, and repaving Village Way. The result will be worth the wait!
