SVEA
Annual Meeting Report
The SVEA annual meeting was held on December 30, 2004 at the American
Legion Hall in Ketchum. A quorum was established with 55% of the
membership represented either in person or by proxy. The Board reported
on Elkhorn Springs, Sun Villa, Crown Ranch Phase V, the status of the
Community School lawsuits, the Master Declaration Amendments, the City
of Sun Valley Comprehensive plan and the Elkhorn Golf Course. The
minutes of the December 30, 2003 and January 2, 2004 annual meeting were
approved and the election of Directors was completed with Peggy Tierney,
Bill Voorhees, Nyle Barnes, and Kristina Dudunakis being elected to the
Board. Meeting minutes will be available on the SVEA website
(www.elkhorn-assoc.org) in a few weeks and will be sent out hard copy by
request. Lists of Board and Committee Members will also be posted on the
website.

The audited financial statement of our fiscal year ending October 31,
2004 has been completed. You may review the document on the SVEA website
(www.elkhorn-assoc.org). If you do not have access to a PC and would
like a copy sent to you, please contact our office at 208-622-7420.
City
of Sun Valley Dark Sky Ordinance
All exterior lighting must be brought into compliance with the City’s
Dark Sky Ordinance by January 1, 2006. If you are planning an exterior
alteration to your property, you will be required to bring all existing
exterior lighting into conformance with the Dark Sky Ordinance. Plans
for the new exterior lighting must be proposed with your application for
design review. For more information or to review the ordinance in its
entirety, visit the City of Sun Valley website at
http://www.sunvalley.govoffice.com/
Sun Villa
On December 14, 2004 the Sun Valley Planning & Zoning Commission
reviewed this project. After a short presentation by Michael Doty,
project architect, the Commission heard public comment. The feeling was
that the developer had made progress by increasing the setbacks from the
property line to 15’ and reducing the building height and number of
units, but the public still does not support this project as "the mass
and bulk is just too much for this site." Great concern was also
expressed, by both the P & Z Commission and the public, over the safety
of the parking garage entrance/exit crossing the bike path. After much
discussion the P & Z Commission tabled this project until January 25,
2005.
CITY
OF SUN VALLEY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
The City of Sun Valley continues to
move forward with the important work of updating the 1994 Comprehensive
Plan. The update will guide development in the City over the next ten
years. The first draft of the land use map for the new comprehensive
plan is ready for review and public comment. For information please
contact the City of Sun Valley.

Exterior
Lighting
We offer this friendly reminder
regarding your holiday lighting. Your seasonal lighting is subject to
the SVEA Exterior Lighting Guidelines. "Decorative holiday lighting used
on the exterior of buildings and in plantings is permitted during the
winter months from November 1st until March 15th, provided a timer is
used to insure that the seasonal lighting is turned off by 11:00 p.m.
each evening".
Ponds
and Thin Ice
With the change of outside temperatures it is time, once again, for us
to remind you of the dangers of thin ice. Please be extremely cautious
around the many streams and ponds in Elkhorn and carefully supervise
children and pets.
Winter
Spa Operations
The Village facility with a steam
room, sauna and hot tub is open daily from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. This
facility will remain open for the duration of the ski season and may be
accessed with a valid amenity card. You may arrange for guest cards by
contacting the office.
Violations
Elkhorn neighborhoods are inspected
weekly in order to maintain the quality, character and value of Elkhorn
property as required by the Master Declaration. There are potential
violations that seem ever present, i.e., the storage of trashcans. It is
a violation for trashcans to be stored on your property where visible
from the road or any adjoining property. Please review your property for
any potential violations. Also, please do not put bags of trash out
prior to the day of trash pickup. Dogs and wildlife can tear the bags
and scatter the trash.
Did
You Know?
That 31% of Elkhorn owners receive
their mail in Blaine County. This is an increase from 26% three years
ago. Of our 1540 owners, 44% live in Idaho; 18% live in Washington; 15%
live in California; 22% live in other parts of the US with 1% living in
foreign countries.
