The fees for these events are $5.00 for homeowners
and $10.00 for renters, houseguests and non-dependent children. To
participate in these events call the Harker Tennis Center at 622-9281
The Junior Tennis camp will run Monday through Friday
at the Harker Center from 1:00 to 4:15 pm. for children ages 6 through
13. There are additional Junior group lessons available at the Elkhorn
Village courts from 1:15 to 2:15 Monday through Friday. This program is
in conjunction with the Elkhorn Junior Day Camp.
There are two ball machines available for rent at
each location as well as rental rackets.
We have had some problem with people playing on the
tennis courts in black soled running shoes. These shoes leave black
marks on the courts that are hard to remove. Please use appropriate
tennis shoes. We do have a limited number of rental shoes available at
each location.
The
Community School
Your Association remains involved in two lawsuits both of which involve
whether or not the Community School lies within the Elkhorn area as
defined in the Master Declaration. You will recall from past reports
that, after being turned down by the ADC, the Community School sued SVEA
seeking to obtain a court decree that the school site is not within the
Elkhorn Area. This lawsuit was initiated after more than 15 years of
treating the school site as if it were in the Elkhorn area.
Specifically, during the last 15 years the owner of
the Community School site paid assessments, voted on Association issues
and applied for ADC approval of improvement projects. Shortly after the
lawsuit was filed by the Community School, the Sagewillow Subdivision
Owners' Association also sued SVEA but it is seeking to prevent the
school site and the lots of its members from being excluded from the
Elkhorn Area. We have just been informed that individual Sagewillow
Subdivision lot owners will be joining their association's lawsuit as
part of the effort to prevent loss of their valuable rights as members
of SVEA. There has been no trial date set in either lawsuit as of this
report. Consequently, a resolution of the disputes will be months in the
future.
Elkhorn
Golf Club & Elkhorn Springs
CG-Elkhorn has obtained design approval from the Sun Valley Planning and
Zoning Commission and SVEA’s Architectural Design Committee for their
new clubhouse, and construction as noted above has begun. Work continues
on the renovations of the course and the current plan calls for a June
1, 2005 Grand Opening for the course and the new clubhouse. An agreement
exists for the use of the golf course (whether it is public or private)
by SVEA members and their guests. This agreement basically gives SVEA
owners and their resident guests 20% of the available daily rounds not
to exceed 3000 rounds each year. A 10% discount on greens fees is also
extended to SVEA members, their renters, and guests. For information
regarding the Elkhorn Golf Club you may call 208-622-3300.
The SVEA Architectural Design Committee has approved
plans for Phase I of the Elkhorn Springs project. This Phase includes
five residential buildings with a total of 42 units. Two of the
buildings will have eighteen units in each, and three of the buildings
will be paired townhomes. Also included in the first phase are three
commercial buildings, a sales office, a restaurant and, a country store.
For information regarding the residential portion of the Elkhorn Springs
development you may contact Suzanne Williams with Sun Valley Real Estate
at 208-726-6000.
War on Weeds
We are in the fourth year of our ongoing weed control program for
the SVEA open space areas. If you live adjacent to any open space areas
that are infested with noxious weeds that we have missed, or if you have
been hiking or biking on any of the open space trails or hillsides and
have noticed weeds, please give us a call with the locations. Also, take
a few minutes and check your property for weeds. If we make this a group
effort, we can be much more effective.
If you have questions concerning the treatment and
identification of noxious weeds, you can call Blaine County Weed Control
at 788-5516. For more information and pictures of these weeds please go
to:

ADC
Changes
The Board of Directors recently made changes to the
Architectural Design Committee (ADC) Manual and submittal requirements.
Those changes include: notification to neighbors within 100’, the
requirement of staking and a staking plan, the requirement of showing
adjacent structures on plans, and the requirement of indicating tree
sizes on plans. For those of you planning to construct a home on your
vacant lot or remodel an existing home, please contact the office for
information or a copy of the revised documents. You may also retrieve
the information from our website: www.elkhorn-assoc.org.

Water
Conservation
It has been easy to be lulled by our frequent afternoon showers into
forgetting that Idaho is still suffering from drought. Please remember
to continue to work on conserving water by practicing the following
principles.
A heavy rain means you don’t have to water at all.
Teach the family how to turn off an automatic sprinkler system in case a
storm comes up during the sprinkling cycle. Observe The Sun Valley Water
& Sewer District’s odd–even days sprinkling schedule and their
suggestion that each sprinkler line is limited to a 30 minute cycle.
Please try to water your lawn only during the cool times of the day to
minimize evaporation.

Crown
Ranch
The lawsuit between the City of Sun Valley and the
developer of the originally proposed 13 unit Crown Ranch Phase 5 is
still pending. However, the City Council recently agreed to allow
Planning & Zoning to review a revised 11-unit plan for Phase 5. The SVEA
Architectural Design Committee denied the 13-unit development when it
was presented to them. A revised 11-unit plan has not been submitted to
SVEA to date.
